The Manx Electric Railway

Manx Electric Railways celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2018. The Victorian railway connects the Manx Capital, Douglas, with Laxey and Ramsey in the north. It travels along the Manx east coast through countryside, glens and villages, looking out to sea.

There are 69 halts and remember to let the conductor know which stop you want to get off at as they won’t stop at them all. Give a clear hand signal to the tram driver if you wish to board the tram as well.

The Electric Railway also links up with the Snaefell Mountain Railway at Laxey.

Stop off at one of many intriguing and stunning glens such as Dhoon Glen, Ballaglass Glen, Glen Mona or Groudle Glen (which also has its own Victorian steam train in the summer months – ‘Groudle Glen Railway’ which runs up to the Cliff Top Café and Sea Lion Rocks).

See ‘The Window Gazer’s Guide to the Manx Electric Railway’ for information about all the places to visit along the railway line including all the beautiful glens, the Laxey Wheel, Groudle Glen Railway, Derby Fort and so many other gems, discovering the history and beauty of the Island.
